Properties of its active compounds: Cascara Sagrada: Hydroxyanthracene heterosides cause an increase in intestinal peristalsis and the secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen, with the consequent laxative effect. Buckthorn: Hydroxyanthracene heterosides cause an increase in intestinal peristalsis and the secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen, with the consequent laxative effect.
