This allows the battery to make contact so the red dot appears when switched on. Next, test the finder by turning it on using the small rotary control on the side. Look through the front aperture and verify the red dot is visible. Adjust brightness using the rotary control, which also serves as the on/off switch. Now set up your telescope as usual, but install the red dot finder in place of the standard optical finder. Point the telescope toward a distant object such as a TV aerial or chimney. Using a low-power eyepiece (25mm is ideal), locate and center the object in the field of view by adjusting the telescope’s position and focus. Use the slow motion controls to precisely center the target. Adjust the red dot finder using the two adjustment wheels so the red dot aligns exactly with the centered object. The front right wheel adjusts left/right, and the rear bottom wheel adjusts up/down. Turn off the finder and wait until dark to use. To operate, turn on the finder and look through its viewing window, aligning the red dot with your intended target. When the red dot is directly over the star or planet, the object should appear in the center of your eyepiece view.
