The function is applicable when we do not know the polarity of the measured voltage. 0V is then in the middle of the scale and the hand leans to the left for negative voltages or to the right for positive voltages. The measuring ranges of the meter are changed by a rotary knob, a smaller knob is used to reset the meter when measuring resistance. A large, analog indicator thanks to continuous indications (rather than sampled as in digital meters) allows you to observe momentary jumps in measured values, easily read shows changes in signal flow directions and provides easier reception of indications.
