GY-MAX4466 Electret Microphone Amplifier Sensor (with Adjustable Gain)
This meticulously designed electret microphone amplifier adds an auditory experience to your projects. The board is pre-assembled and tested, with a 20-20 kHz electret microphone soldered on.
We used the Maxim MAX4466 for amplification, an operational amplifier designed specifically for this precision task! This amplifier boasts excellent power supply noise rejection, resulting in superb sound quality and being significantly quieter than other microphone amplifiers we've tested!
This breakout board is ideal for voice changers, audio recording/sampling, and sound response projects using FFT.
A small, fine-tuning potentiometer on the back allows you to adjust the gain. You can set the gain from 25x to 125x. At a distance of approximately 15 cm and normal speaking volume, the peak voltage can be as low as approximately 200 mVpp, ideal for connecting to devices that require line-level inputs without clipping; the peak voltage can reach up to approximately 1 Vpp, ideal for reading signals from a microcontroller ADC. The output is rail-to-rail, so if the sound is loud, the output voltage can reach up to 5 Vpp! Usage is simple: Ground GND and connect VCC to 2.4-5VDC. For best performance, use the quietest power supply (typically 3.3V on Arduino). The audio waveform is output from the OUT pin. The output has a DC bias of VCC/2, so the voltage will stabilize at VCC/2 volts (it is DC-coupled) when completely muted. If your audio device requires AC-coupled audio, connect a 100uF capacitor between the output pin and the device's input.
If you are connecting to an audio amplifier with differential inputs or including decoupling capacitors, a 100uF capacitor is not required.
The output pin is not designed to drive speakers or any device other than the smallest in-ear headphones - you will need an audio amplifier (e.g., a 3.7W stereo amplifier) if you want to connect the amplifier directly to the speakers.
If you are connecting to a microcontroller pin, no amplifier or decoupling capacitor is needed - connect the OUT pin directly to the microcontroller's ADC pin.
For audio response projects, we recommend using an FFT driver library, which can receive audio input and "convert" it to frequency.
