Acer palmatum 'Starfish', Japanese Red Maple, Height 20-40cm, 2-liter pot.

Acer palmatum 'Starfish' is a special Japanese red maple with a distinctive leaf shape. This variety is distinguished by its deeply incised leaves that curl slightly downwards, giving the plant a refined and almost sculptural appearance. Due to this leaf structure, 'Starfish' is instantly recognizable within the range of Japanese maples. The growth is steady and compact, making this maple well-suited for smaller gardens, pots, and sheltered borders. Due to its shape and color, it looks its best in a spot where the foliage can be viewed up close. About the Acer palmatum 'Starfish' The leaves of 'Starfish' are deeply incised and star-shaped. During the growing season, the leaves are red to reddish-purple in color. The slightly downward-curling leaf tips give the plant extra depth and movement. In autumn, the foliage may deepen further into warm red tones. The maple is deciduous and loses its leaves in winter. In spring, it sprouts fresh new growth. Acer palmatum 'Starfish' grows best in a sheltered location in partial shade, in well-drained, humus-rich, and slightly acidic soil. As for pruning, this maple requires little work; although it tolerates pruning well, it is best to let it grow naturally, as this ultimately ensures the tree develops a compact and elegant appearance. If you must prune the tree, do so when it has leaves; pruning in winter can cause bleeding.
